Fun Events to Have on Your Radar for 2022

2021 was a great year for the events industry, where we saw some of our favourite staples begin to return after a year of harsher restrictions and limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 is set to be even bigger and better, and at Alpha Crew we are really looking forward to the year ahead. We’ve put together a list of some of the most exciting events that you should have on your radar to attend this year!

Bowie in Brighton

Brighton Museum is host of Bowie in Brighton; an exhibition of unique photographs of the legendary singer-songwriter David Bowie, taken by his close friend and travelling companion Geoff MacCormack. This limited experience is a fantastic opportunity to see never before seen of this British icon from the mid 1970’s. Head down before the 23rd January to catch this exhibition. Also, check out the other exhibits on at the museum while you're there!

Somerset Shoephoria

Bath’s Fashion Museum is hosting a world-class display of 350 pairs of shoes and boots to highlight the evolution of shoe design over the last 300 years. The Shoephoria exhibition includes a pair of heels worn by Her Majesty Queen Mary, Queen Victoria and a host of celebrity designer shoes. On display until 18th April.

The Queen’s Jubilee

At the beginning of June, the UK will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an extended bank holiday weekend. Queen Elizabeth II’s historic milestone will be observed with a host of parties, parades, public events and community activities to celebrate the first British Monarch to reach 70 years on the throne.

Bridgerton Ball

In February, fans of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton will have their chance to live out their dreams in real life at an exclusive event presented by Secret Cinema and Fever. To be held at a secret location in London, guests will be given a bespoke character backstory and quest to complete over the course of the evening where attendees will be dining, dancing and mingling in regency-style outfits.

The Commonwealth Games

In July this year, Birmingham will be the home to the 2022 Commonwealth Games. This international multi-sport event will see athletes and para-athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations competing at highly professional and impressive levels in swimming, diving, cricket, gymnastics, athletics, cycling, boxing and more.

Creativity Festival

Birmingham is very busy this year, alongside the Commonwealth Games they will also be hosting a six-month creativity festival. From March to September, the festival which will shine a spotlight on creative ventures in the West Midlands, will feature hundreds of commissions including art, photography, dance, theatre and much more.

UEFA Women’s EURO 2022

In July, England’s Lionesses will join 15 other nations to take part in the UEFA Women’s 2022 EUROS. Football fans will be able to watch world-class football across 31 matches held at 9 cities in the UK including London, Manchester and Brighton.

30th Birthday Brighton Pride

One of the most renowned Pride events in the world, Brighton Pride will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer. Known as the best LGBTQ+ celebration event in the country, Brighton will see its streets filled with over 300,000 people parading to the main Pride Festival site where they will be entertained with live music, dance tents and immersive events.

Rugby League World Cup

Towards the end of the year in October, the postponed Rugby League World Cup will finally be held in Manchester and Newcastle. Male, female and wheelchair rugby players will take part in tournaments at St James Park and Old Trafford in a revolutionary moment for Rugby League.

UNBOXED British Creativity

UNBOXED is a groundbreaking festival taking place throughout 2022 which will celebrate British creativity and innovation. Focusing on the science, technology, engineering, mathematics and arts industries, 10 unique and immersive exhibitions will take place across the UK, and 8 in England in locations such as Cambridge and Birmingham.

Discover Doctor Who

Attention all sci-fi fans! Liverpool’s World Museum will be hosting a world of science within the universe of Doctor Who starting at the end of May. This will be a unique and immersive experience filled with props, artifacts, set pieces and more, that will allow guests to explore Doctor Who’s ‘World of Wonder’ like never before.

Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature, is an exhibition that will be opening on February 12th at the V&A in London. Thanks to the National Trust, visitors will be able to experience the life story of the much-loved children’s author through sketchbooks, coded diaries, family photographs and more.

Bob Marley

At a favourite venue of Alpha Crew’s, The Saatchi Gallery in London, The Bob Marley One Love Experience will make its global debut in February. This exhibition, which will run for 10 weeks from 2nd February, will showcase unseen photographs and memorabilia from the life of Bob Marley.

Titanic

A journey through the true story of the Titanic has come to London for the first time with Titanic: The Exhibition. Through handwritten letters, passenger belongings and artifacts, discover the tale of the most infamous ship’s first and final voyage.

ABBA

For the first time in 40 years ABBA have returned with a new album and tour. At London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park between May and October, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid will be performing digitally with a 10-piece band and virtual versions of themselves. Brought to you by an 850-person team at George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic, this is sure to be a memorable experience like no other.

Winter Olympics

A big year for sport, this year taking place in Beijing, China will be the 2022 Winter Olympics. The world’s top athletes will be competing for gold medals in the biathlon, bob-sledding, curling, skiing and many more events, and will be broadcast to watch from the comfort of your own home.

World Cup

This year will be ending with the FIFA World Cup 2022 is going to be taking place in Qatar in November and December. This will see 32 nations compete for the title giving us weeks of fantastic football entertainment and hopefully the chance of seeing our favourite teams go the whole way!
